The official launch party for the new Liverpool 2016-17 home kit was held last night at the Pier Head. Poignantly with the verdicts in their inquests which ended recently, the victims of the Hillsborough Tragedy are remembered with the torch emblems either side of the 96 under the collar on the back of the shirt.
Widely leaked in recent weeks, the kit was unveiled to an adoring Merseyside public, whose contribution is acknowledged on the hem of the shirt.
The upcoming Europa League final against Sevilla fed a feelgood factor as stars from yesteryear such as Robbie Fowler were paraded in front of the faithful, alongside current members of the squad modelling the new kit. Even Jason McAteer was invited onto the stage!
Keeping with tradition, New Balance presented the all-red kit with a clean design. The top, complete with Henley-style collar and a single button, houses a thin yellow trim which pays homage to the colour of past away kits.
Simon Mignolet modelled the all-green goalkeepers kit, with the top broken by a solid black shoulder patch and white trim, with the pattern repeated in a small solid ‘v’ at the bottom of the neckline.
The kit is on sale now!
