A Beautiful Tribute to Senna. Corinthians’ 2018/19 Away Kit incorporates the Race Car Driver’s First Victory.
Kits can often be quite shallow. They can appear like they’ve been knocked up in half an hour without much thought. We at UK Soccer Shop believe that it’s okay for a kit to be completely basic. On the other hand, some clubs and countries team up with a designer to create a canvas of expression. The jersey can reflect the location, its people or, like Atletico Madrid, the fans and their mustering point after a victory. Today a third kit was pushed across our desk. We’d seen the design on social media and we wanted to bring it to you. The jersey honours arguably the most famous Formula One driver of all time.
He was born in Sao Paulo, a sprawling Brazilian district. Ayrton Senna won his first Grand Prix in 1985 and the Lotus that he was driving had a distinctive pattern. A pattern that is reflected in Corinthians’ third kit.
The jersey is black. Running horizontally across the front are a number of thin, gold lines. These create a thicker stripe effect and act as the perfect blank canvas for the club’s crest and Nike’s iconic Swoosh. Also featuring on the front of Corinthians’ third kit are the words ‘Senna Sempre.’ In Portuguese, the official language of Brazil (where Corinthians play in Serie A), the words mean ‘Senna Always.’
It is also worth mentioning the nape of the jersey. Here the horizontal stripes that appear on the front of Corinthians’ third kit feature vertically. Furthermore, it is a nice touch and allows the Senna third kit to appear complete.
The sleeves are black, without pattern and around the simple neckline there is no alternative colouring. Corinthians’ Senna third kit is perfectly commemorative and has been positively received by fans.
