Sometimes here at UK Soccer Shop, a kit will be pushed across our desks that is stunning. We’ll look at it and know that the designers have spent a decent amount of time planning and executing the planned result. Furthermore, when a kit is excellent, it demonstrates the club’s pride in themselves. This pride is exactly what we saw when our eyes glanced across Northampton Town’s 2018/19 home kit and it’s what the club need after their relegation from League One.
We saw their away kit a few days ago and loved it. It was bold and yellow. That’s right. Yellow. If there’s a yellow kit, our ears tend to prick up fairly quickly.
The club have had a tough last year. As well as being relegated from League One, the ex-chairman is caught up in a financial battle with Northampton Council. Perhaps this season they can bounce back and what better way to do it than with an excellent away kit?
The kit is designed by Nike, who have more than a little experience in the kit creating department. Its colouring is dark burgundy and features a number of lined shapes on the front and back.
It’s always tricky when deciding on a collar. Nike have opted for the classic polo-style collar with white lines running down either side. This completes the kit nicely and the sleeves feature an elasticated, same-colour tapering at the bottom.
Across the centre of the kit is the club’s main sponsor: The University of Northampton. Its white writing does not detract from the crest or colouring of the kit. Furthermore, it fits in quite nicely with the overall design.
We hope that Northampton Town can bounce straight out of League Two and we look forward to seeing both this away kit and the home one competing next season.
