Ask anyone in England who the most unfortunate club to support would be and they’ll give you a huge list. Most of it will be biased (they’ll surely name their rival club). But it’s hard to ignore the lack of luck that Sunderland have experienced. They were in the Premier league from 2007. Sure it wasn’t the top end of the table and they didn’t compete too much with the titans of Manchester United but they were there. After bouncing around the EPL they dropped down to the Championship in 2017 and have now been relegated to League One. Newcastle United fans would surely have been quite smug when Sunderland went down to the Championship and Newcastle were promoted into the Premier League but now they probably just feel sorry for their rivals.
Everyone knows football is turbulent but most Coal Cats were hoping for a straight return to the top flight. It hasn’t happen and they need to steady their ship.
To help do so, the club have teamed up with Adidas to create a home and away kit that is simple, dynamic, and well designed.
The first thing to point out is the material. The jersey is almost entirely made of Adidas Climacool technology. This is the height of breathability and allows all players to keep their calm. Something quite important for the upcoming campaign.
The home kit is made up of white and red vertical stripes, with a button at the front and Adidas’ iconic stripes across the shoulders. The club crest, sponsor, ad Adidas logo all feature on the chest and aren’t crowded out by brave design choices. Instead, it’s quite simple, efficient and exactly what we’d expect.
The away kit is black, to reflect the nickname of the club. The tapering of the neckline, Adidas stripes and club crest are blood red, which stands out very effectively ontop of the black and grey background.
Perhaps this could be the season to get Sunderland straight back into the Championship. We look forward to seeing these two kits perform.
