They survived. Did you think they would? Did you even consider a Premier League title at one point? Watford FC. have just finished their most recent run in English football’s highest tier. They finished 17th, just behind West Ham. To let you into a secret, this author would have quite liked West Ham to be relegated. Not because I don’t like them, simply because they’ve moved into such a huge stadium, wouldn’t it be fantastic to see Rotherham or Ipswich Town play there?
While Watford will have another run next season to finish higher in the table, they have just released their latest home kit. The yellow and black colour scheme is always a little bit of a shock, but we think you’ll like this kit. If you can forgive the dominating sponsor, that is.
In vertical lines runs yellow and black. The sleeves are black and there are stripes running up to the neckline, a trademark of Adidas’ design. By having vertical lines on the body and horizontal ones across the shoulders, this really does feel like a shapely, complete kit.
Watford’s nickname is the Hornets. We here at UK Soccer Shop aren’t too keen on the super-charged wasps which deliver an awful sting. However, Watford have featured one on the nape of the kit top and fair play, it does look excellent.
The one, tiny (quite large) design choice which can be easily forgiven is the dominating name across the chest. We’ve seen it with Ipswich Town’s latest kits and we mentioned it with Rotherham United’s yesterday. Sometimes it does work and I think perhaps here it might. Simply for the fact that the colours fit with the club’s logo.
When I think of Watford FC I think of 29 year-old Troy Deeney. I don’t know why but I do. Maybe in the future this author will instead associate the club with winning and having a legendary season like Leicester’s in 2015/16.
