Two weeks ago Huddersfield FC fans got the news that they really wanted. David Wagner, the protege of Jergen Klopp, signed a new three year contract with the club. About the future, the German manager said “The decision to extend my stay at this club was not a difficult one.” Wagner secured Huddersfield’s promotion in their 2016/17 season. As well as this fantastic news, Umbro have released the Terriers’ home kit. It is bright, fresh, and has the designer’s unique 2018/19 pattern which clubs like Everton have also adopted.
The blue and white vertical stripes are really very nice. That’s not a well crafted sentence but it is true. This author is a huge fan of stripes and block coloured shoulders.
There are however, one or two features that might prove to be controversial.
Firstly is the main sponsor. OPE Sports is a betting site which allows visitors to watch a range of streams, from football to hockey. The company’s name seems to dominate the jersey in a way that wasn’t seen with the 2017/18 kit.
While the sponsor isn’t as garish as Ipswich Town’s latest kit, it does seem to stand out more than the club’s crest or the designer’s logo. Furthermore, OPE is facing a legal battle with UED, a company who claims to have the same, original logo.
Lately Huddersfield kits have seen a beautiful shield with three stars above it. Now, to match their nickname, the club have returned to their older logo – the terrier.
The modern interpretation of the dog isn’t quite as bold as the previous shield, however it is wonderful to see it back once again.
We at UK Soccer Shop seriously hope that Huddersfield fans are happy with their latest kit from Umbro. We also hope that the club can compete with the titans of Manchester, as well as the very top of London’s clubs.
