The Uruguay national team are rumoured to be joining New Balance ahead of the 2024
Copa América tournament.
Uruguay’s contract with Puma ended on 31 December 2023, which ended a 17-year
long relationship between the German brand and the South American side. According to
NSS Sports, Uruguay will link up with American sports brand New Balance for the 2024
Copa América tournament, which is being held in the United States. NSS were one of
the first to break the news of Newcastle United’s upcoming deal with Adidas for the
2024/25 season.
New Balance’s football journey continues
New Balance are the current kit supplier for FC Porto and LOSC Lille and have
previously created jerseys for the likes of Liverpool, AS Roma, Athletico Bilbao and the
Republic of Ireland and Costa Rica national sides.
The American company is determined to make more statements within the football
world and getting the Uruguayan national team to join their ranks would be a bold move.
Many fans will see the move to New Balance as a potential breath of fresh air, after
Puma was highly criticised for their away shirts at the 2022 Fifa World Cup in Qatar.
Uruguay to win silverware?
Uruguay will hope to win the 2024 Copa América tournament for the first time since
2011, when they beat Paraguay 3-0 in the final. With this likely to be Luis Suárez’s final
tournament for his country, the striker will hope legendary manager Marcelo Bielsa can
inspire the team to victory.
