Uruguay have had their first run out with Nike in a 4-0 thrashing of Mexico in a warm-up fixture ahead of the Copa America. Darwin Nunez struck a hat trick while Manchester United’s Facundo Pellistri also got on the scoresheet.
The Uruguayan national team were previously with German manufacturing giants Puma but ended their 15 year partnership in 2023. Despite rumours of Adidas and New Balance being interested in partnering with the South American nation, it was Nike that won the race.
The away jersey worn by Uruguay against Mexico was a very simple white kit with a black Nike swoosh and the Uruguayan national team badge. It is believed that the kit worn in their victory against the Mexicans was a provisional strip, with a more formally designed version of the jersey set to be released very soon.
Under the management of Marcelo Bielsa, Uruguay will be hopeful of having a successful Copa America tournament. Their group consists of the United States of America, Bolivia and Panama.
In other news, Celta Vigo have announced a mega five year partnership with hummel.
