Umbro are one of the most recognisable manufacturing brands in world football. Over the years they have collaborated with some of the biggest clubs in the sport. In this article, we will look at the 10 most iconic Umbro shirts in football history.

Celtic home 1985-87

Umbro

Celtic kick off our Umbro list with their home jersey worn from 1985-87. Umbro kept the classic green and white hoop look for the Celts, completed with their iconic “CR Smith” sponsor.

Worn by the likes of Brian McClair, Mo Johnston and Tommy Burns, Celtic won the 1985/86 Scottish league title while sporting this lovely strip.

Manchester United away 1997-99

After a disastrous grey away kit release, Manchester United quickly switched back to a white away strip.

This white jersey with dashes of black and red throughout made its first appearance in United’s 1997/98 Charity Shield victory over Chelsea.

The jersey is best remembered for Ryan Giggs’ sensational solo goal against Arsenal in the 1999 FA Cup semi-final as United went on to complete a historic treble.

Nottingham Forest home 1992-94

Nottingham Forest find themselves on our list for their impressive 1992-94 home jersey. Umbro incorporated white pinstripes across the red jersey while the collar gave the shirt a slick look. Finished off with their famous “Shipstones” sponsor, this strip is one you still see being worn today.

Worn when Roy Keane was at the club, the shirt is associated with some bad memories as Forest suffered relegation from the Premier League in 1993.

Chelsea away 2003-2005

Chelsea began the Roman Abramovich in style with this stand-out away jersey.

Umbro got the jersey spot on with the use of blue and navy on the predominantly white strip. The old Chelsea badge and Fly Emirates sponsor are also appreciated by fans of today.

The Blues reached the 2003/04 Champions League semi-final while repping this shirt. It was also used as the club’s third jersey when José Mourinho moved to Stamford Bridge, winning the league at the first time of asking.

West Brom home 1977-81

Worn by Albion legends such as Laurie Cunningham and Cyrille Regis, Umbro kept it simple with the white and navy stripes. A classic look for one of the most iconic English sides.

Inter Milan third 1997/98

A jersey collectors favourite comes in at number five on our list with Inter Milan’s European third shirt from the 1997/98 season.

One of the best jerseys produced by Umbro, the black and grey hoops with blue outlines give this shirt a unique look. The classic “Pirelli” sponsor also adds to the nostalgic feel that comes with this Inter jersey.

Inter won the UEFA Cup wearing this jersey as they dispatched fellow Italian side Lazio in the final.

England home 1990

Although this jersey may bring back some unwanted heartbreak for England fans, the country’s home shirt for the 1990 FIFA World Cup was a stunner.

The jerseys simple yet unique design along with its navy blue collar made it a fan favourite. England reached the semi-finals of Italia ‘90 before losing to Germany on a penalty shoot-out.

Brazil home 1992

Umbro did outstandingly well with Brazil’s 1992 home jersey making it the worthy winner of our list.

Liverpool home 1983/84

Liverpool achieved European glory in 1984 while wearing this stunning Umbro shirt. The Reds beat A.S Roma on penalties to take home their fourth European title.

The jersey is given a classic look due to having no sponsor. Thin white stripes across the shirt adds to its brilliance. A white and red V-neck finishes off a fantastic jersey.

Ajax away 1994/95

Speaking of winning the European Cup, Ajax come in at number one on our list with their stunning away jersey from the 1994/95 season.

Ajax beat AC Milan 1-0 in the UEFA Champions League final, with Patrick Kluivert scoring the only goal of the game.

Umbro provided football fans with a classic, the Ajax badge in the centre, impressive colour combinations and a slick collar to finish.
