Tottenham Hotspur almost challenged Arsenal’s north London supremacy last but their title hopes crumbled as the pressure mounted. A crushing 1 – 5 reverse at already relegated Newcastle United on the final day of the season summed up how badly the final month of 2015/16 had been for Spurs.
But 2016/17 is a fresh start and that comes with new signings like Victor Wanyama and new kits. Like most top flight and European clubs, they find that images of their next away kit have leaked onto the web.
Tottenham Hotspur 2016/17 Away Kit
This then, is the 2016/17 Tottenham Hotspur away kit from Under Armour.
The shirt is a dark navy, with no hint of the light blue which figured prominently in last season’s away kit. A plain pattern, the trim is gold.
With its round neck collar in a solid gold band, the shirt is easy on the eye. The cuffs are an interesting design. Two thick golden bands form a guard of honour for a thin gold hoop set in two thicker navy blue bands.
On the right breast, Under Armour’s logo sits opposite the club crest on the left. Primary shirt sponsor, AIA, has their logo on the middle of the chest. All logos and insignia are coloured gold, maintaining the theme throughout the shirt.
It’s expected that the kit will be completed with navy blue shorts and gold trim. The socks provide intrigue. Nike has set their template by using a contrasting colour for the socks but Under Armour have resisted following suit with other kits issued to date.
Will Tottenham buck that trend? Arsenal’s Puma third kit is a not dissimilar design which makes us wonder if their north London rivals will try to make a difference in the fashion stakes. The answer will be revealed soon enough!
