Sunderland 2016/17 Third Kit Unveiled

Sunderland have unveiled their third kit for the 2016/17 and like The Psychedelic Furs, will be Pretty In Pink. The Wearsiders narrowly avoided relegation last term and will need a big improvement if they are to avoid the fate which befell local rivals, Newcastle United.

Sunderland 2016/17 Third Kit

This is the third kit which Sunderland will wear for the 2016/17 season.

In their launch press release, Sunderland kept the musical theme going, informing us that the kit was an “intense Pink” with the alternative horizontal bands being “deep purple”. The club believed the design was “eye-catching” and perhaps it’s a cunning tactical plan on their part to blur the vision of the opposition with the alternating coloured angular slashes across each vertical stripe.

It was thoughtful of the club to issue a kit which has the base colour that matches Sam Allardyce’s cheeks when decisions go against the Black Cats on their travels last season.

To give your eyes a rest, Adidas have put their Three Stripes – in pink – on purple shoulder panels which stop halfway up the arm.

The collar is a rounded v-shape, with the top stripe purple above a similarly wide pink band. The shirt colouring is finished with a purple hemline.

The club crest sits on the left breast with the Adidas mark on the right. Both are in white font, as is the logo of primary shirt sponsor, Dafabet.

The shorts will be purple, with the Adidas Three Stripes beginning two-thirds of the way down below purple adornments. They are in pink, keeping the colour scheme going throughout the kit.

Some respite for your eyes comes with the kit being finished off with purple socks and pink trim.

Sunderland supporters must be hoping the CD Palencia come up with another outlandish design pretty quickly to divert attention away from this kit. Be grateful that the government hasn’t yet introduced a licence fee for garishly coloured tops; you’d be paying that as well with this number!
