Recently, a rare match worn Manchester United shirt was sold for a bid in the excess of £3,000 on an online auction site.
The shirt, which dates back to the 1985-86 season, is notable for its crisp colour and freshness despite its age. The Red Devils shirt eventually went for £3,155 – and no doubt attracted the masses of bids with its striking quality. Even if you’re not of the United persuasion, it’s understandable why such a piece would move for that much money.
The classic badge sits central, embroidered tangibly into the chest area. There’s that iconic ‘Sharp’ sponsor too. The white and red contrast is immaculate, as are the sleeve-ends, collar, and Adidas logos on the arms.
The eight on the back is an underrated prospect, yet the stars of the show are the players themselves. The shirt is said to have 19 signatures over the front in slowly faded biro – including Hughes, Robson, Blackmore, Bailey, Strachan, Moran, Whiteside, Albiston, Turner, and Duxbury among others.
An excerpt from the seller:
“Shirt was originally hung in a frame for 35 years. (…) I was told that shirt was obtained direct from the club very early on in the 1985 season. (…) The holes/imperfections /staining on the shirt do not detract from what is a fantastically rare genuine Manchester United players shirt. (…) Shirt has been signed to front of the shirt by around 19 Manchester United first team players from the 1985 /1986 season in biro pen.”
An amazing piece for all Manchester United fans and collectors.
