On 14th January 1967, Millwall entertained Plymouth Argyle in a Football League Division Two match. An ordinary Saturday gained additional significance when The Pilgrims won 2 – 1, the first team to win at The Den since Bristol City took the points in April 1964. A run of 59 home games without defeat in all competitions.
Still one of the most phenomenal home unbeaten runs in English football, Millwall celebrate the 50th anniversary of the run with their 2016/17 home kit.
It’s a happier memory than May’s 1 – 3 defeat to Barnsley in the League One play-off final!
Millwall 2016/17 Home Kit
This is the home kit Millwall will wear for the 2016/17 season.
Modelled on the 1966/67 kit, Italian kit manufacturer, Errea, has given the dark navy blue and white stripes a fresh look.
In a nod to the golden anniversary of the run, the collar features a y-shape neckline in old gold. The collar itself is not crew-necked but winged in the same shade of blue as the stripes. Errea’s own logo features in the same gold in a nod toward the inspiration.
Evenly spaced, the stripes continue across the front and back of the shirt’s body and sleeves.
Millwall’s primary shirt sponsor, WT Building Contractors, sees their logo feature in a white panel which travels the width of the front of the shirt.
The kit will be completed by blue shorts and blue socks, both featuring white trim.
Both Errea and Millwall deserve a huge pat on the back for a stylish take on the kit from fifty years ago. A magnificent footballing achievement is being commemorated in fine fashion.
