Manchester United 1999 Testimonial Kit Sells For £ 5,500

1999 featured Manchester United’s greatest ever season, and possibly one of the greatest club seasons of all time. Donning their famous red and white collared kit, during the 1998/1999 season, after a trophyless previous season, Manchester United won the English Treble, which featured the FA Cup, the Premier League and the Champions League. United only lost five times that season and made several incredible comebacks, most memorably in the Champions League, in particular the late winner in the final against Bayern Munich. This success has arguably been eclipsed in the years gone by, for example by the sextuple-winning Barcelona side under Pep Guardiola, and most recently, Manchester City’s treble winners, also under Pep Guardiola. However, Manchester United were the first English team to manage such a feat and against such odds, and for this reason, the 1998/1999 side is still held in such high regard.

The above kit is a match-worn shirt from the Testimonial match for Coach Sir Alex Ferguson, following the incredible success of 1999. It was bought via an online auction for an incredible £5,500, evidence of not only its value but its significance. The long sleeves, the traditional stitched badge and the longstanding sponsor, “Sharp”, are all the hallmarks of the memorable 1998/1999 season. Many legends wore this kit, and many fans fell in love with Manchester United as a result of this kit. A true piece of history and well worth its auctioned price.
