Relegated to the Championship, Newcastle United face a fight to hold onto their best players with Moussa Sissoko already planning an exit to Arsenal, of all places.
They will disappointed if key personnel but probably not as much with the leak of photos of next season’s home kit onto the web!
Newcastle United 2016/17 Home Kit
This is the leaked image of Newcastle United’s 2016/17 home kit.
It’s been 122 years since the Magpies introduced the famous black and white striped shirt.
Puma, preferred kit manufacturers on Tyneside since 2010, have reverted to solid black stripes, losing the blue tonal bands on the stripes from the disastrous 2015/16 campaign. The stripes are evenly spaced around the front and back of the body, as well on the sleeves.
The collar, with its traditional open v-neck design, is all black with gold trim on the neckline and thin gold band on the wing. Across the shoulders, a white band travels down to the gold and black shirt cuff. Puma has it’s logo on the right breast and at the top of each sleeve in gold, with the club badge on the left breast.
Completing the front of the shirt will be the logo of current primary sponsor, Wonga, housed in a white panel. It’s a pity the panel doesn’t sit neatly. The sides of the panel should finish at the edge of the white stripes which would mean that the mesh panelling under the arm in black was disguised, rather than the disjointed finish applied.
Ninety years ago, Newcastle United won their last league title and they would dearly love to win the Championship in 2016/17 to mark that anniversary. The priority for next season is returning to the Premier League at the first attempt. Issuing a popular kit would go some way to restoring a feelgood factor in the city ahead of that.
And the Magpies may just have done that!
