Newcastle are nothing if not consistent when it comes to kit releases. There is something iconic and everlasting about black and white kits, and everyone is familiar with the black and white striped shirt of the Tyneside Club.
However, since Newcastle’s financial takeover by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), there have been varying degrees of upsetment with some away kits released by the club, particularly those that accentuate the club’s controversial relationship with Saudi Arabia. (see below)
Nevertheless, the leaked news of a retro kit on the horizon for 2024 is an exciting change of pace. Adidas has admitted to the shirt being long-sleeved, a classic remake of years gone by, and with the removal of Castore as the official kit supplier, there will be room for creative expression on the shirt as well. Newcastle currently boast some of the greatest and most popular retro kits, the 1995 Newcastle Home Kit (left) as well as the 1970s Retro Home kit (right)
As of this moment, there have been no further leaks over what to expect, so whether the released shirt is a call-back to the famous Brown Ale sponsor, or a more traditional 1970s plain look, remains to be seen. The new Adidas range of long-sleeved Newcastle kits is set to be released for the 2024/2025 season, and therefore fans will have even more to look forward to next season.
