Burnley’s 2016/17 Home Kit Released

Premier League new boys, Burnley, have celebrated their return to the top flight by releasing a new home kit for the 2016/17 season. Unveiled on Friday night, it’s been manufactured by Puma for the seventh season running.

Last season’s Sky Bet Championship winners amassed 93 points and lost just five times. The Clarets will be hoping to turn Turf Moor into a fortress and take inspiration from Bournemouth in retaining their Premier League status at the end of the season. Their recent stays in the top flight have last just one season, a record Burnley will seek to end this season.

The familiar claret and blue shirt will be accompanied by white shorts and white socks.

Puma has followed the same straightforward design template they used for the Arsenal third shirt, images of which have leaked onto the web.

Instead of a round neck collar though, Burnley will wear a retro-style winged collar. The lapels will be sky blue and lead into a curved v-shape neckline in white.

Leading from the collar is a broad sky blue shoulder stripe which leads down the sleeve to a thick similarly coloured cuff. Under the arm, a sky blue panel offers a colourful break from the all-claret shirt body.

It’s very much a traditional Burnley shirt, evoking memories of Leighton James and Brian Flynn.

The simplicity of the shirt design offers a welcome break from the splashes and bars other clubs have opted for. Not as unique as large sky blue v which dominated the Burnley shirts of the late 1970s but no less original for this era.
