The limited edition Boca Juniors jersey launched on the 11th of January 2013. The most notable feature about the jersey is the change on colours. Boca Juniors, arguably the biggest football team in Argentina are renowned for playing in their iconic blue and golden jersey. The limited-edition jersey launched last year is a complete contrast; featuring two tones of purple occupying half of the shirt.
The traditional colours of Boca Juniors has seen some excellent stars represent their club. The likes of Carlos Tevez, Walter Samuel and Rodrigo Palacio have developed their talents respectively at La Bombonera. The striking colours of Boca has also seen two of the most iconic players in the clubs history wear the jersey: Juan Roman Riquelme and Diego Maradona. Many Boca fans were wondering if the surprising change of colours would see a new wave exciting, young players emerge in the capital.
The limited edition jersey, made by Nike, was designed by famous Argentinean artist Carlos Regazonni – leading to the hype and eagerness surrounding such a jersey. Once released, it automatically became a ‘must-have’ item for fans across the world. Why was the shirt hot property? Only 14,000 jerseys were manufactured for sale, adding extra status and incentive to the lucky ones who could get their hands on the eye-catching shirt.
The shirt itself was created using 100% recycled polyester from plastic bottles collected in Argentina; the origin of where manufacturing took place. Nike also implemented their Dri-FIT technology; meaning the players could wear the shirt in comfort and the shirt would remain dry, as well as a slim-fit. The manufacturing process of the shirt proves Nike’s Eco-friendly approach, one of the many factors that influenced it’s popularity and sales.
The shirt was a raging success amongst Boca Juniors fans to say the least. In fact, it was so popular, that Nike and Boca shouldn’t think twice about reintroducing the jersey at a later stage, due to the reviews and success it earned.
