Bayern Munich’s Special Beckenbauer Tribute Warm-up Jumper

Bayern Munich paid tribute to club legend Franz Beckenbauer on Friday evening during their match against Hoffenheim. Along with a beautiful pre-match display paying tribute to the German defender, Bayern players warmed up in their usual pre-game sweatshirt, with all players wearing Beckenbauer’s iconic number five on the back of the jumper.

The multicoloured warm-up sweatshirt is a fan favourite since being released at the start of this season. Bayern also paid tribute to Beckenbauer on their home shirt, with the message “Danke Franz” written on the centre of their jersey.

The reigning champions of Germany ran away 3-0 winners in their first match of 2024, thanks to goals from Jamal Musiala and Harry Kane as they look to hunt down Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen in the battle for the Bundesliga title.

Beckenbauer had an illustrious football career, winning multiple European Cups and Bundesliga titles with Bayern Munich. The German also won the FIFA World Cup as both a player and a manager in 1974 and 1990 respectively. He passed away on January 7th and will be remembered by many as one of the greatest defenders to ever play the game.
