Austin FC have revealed their away jersey for the upcoming 2024 Major League Soccer Season. Known as the “Armadillo Kit” the shirt celebrates the live music scene of Austin.
Austin FC and their Armadillo kit pays homage to Armadillo World Headquarters, which was an iconic and world renowned concert venue that flourished from 1970 to 1980. Famous musicians who played at the Armadillo include Willie Nelson, Bruce Springsteen, Waylon Jennings, Ray Charles, Stevie Ray Vaughn, ZZ Top, Frank Zappa, members of the Grateful Dead, and The Ramones.
Minority owner of the club and world famous actor Matthew McConaughey spoke about the release of the unique jersey, saying: “The spirit of the ‘Dillo is still alive today.
The music, the party, the creativity, and the belief in Austin as a place where all walks of life come together to celebrate community. It’s a uniquely-Austin experience, and that spirit that was created at the ‘Dillo is alive and well at Q2 Stadium on an Austin FC matchday.”
Austin FC finished in 25th position in last season’s MLS and will hope for a stronger campaign in 2024. The club kick off their season against Minnesota United on February 24.
