Basque club Athletic Bilbao have revealed their new 2016/17 home kit.
On the last day of the 2015/16 La Liga season, Athletic extracted some revenge when they beat Sevilla to secure a top five finish ahead of Galicians, Celta Vigo. Sevilla had knocked Athletic out of the Europa League in the quarter-finals, winning 5 – 4 on penalties with the sides tied 3 – 3 on aggregate.
Since 1910, the club has worn red and white stripes after an ill-fated trip to England resulted in fifty of those kits being brought back instead of the club’s colours of blue and white halved shirts. In 1913, they added the black shorts which have become an equally important mainstay of the kit.
Athletic Bilbao 2016/17 Home Kit
This is the Athletic Bilbao home kit for the 2016/17 season.
Manufactured by Nike, the red and white stripes are evenly spaced around the front of the shirt’s body and sleeves. The collar, a curved v-neck white with the stripes running over the top.
Within the white of the shirt is a series of small holes to improve the airflow around the body. The back of the shirt is solid red to promote clear visibility of the player’s names and numbers.
The shorts of the kit will be black with a red and white trim whilst the socks are all-black.
It’s a classic Athletic Bilbao kit. It’s the fourth of life’s certainties: birth, death, taxes and Athletic playing red and white stripes!
