Arsenal are one of the iconic teams of the Premier League era. With iconic players such as Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira, and Dennis Bergkamp all wearing the Gunners’ famous jersey, it is no wonder the club is one of the most recognised in the world.
In this article, we’ll look at five of the best Arsenal shirts of all time.
Arsenal Away Shirt 1988-91
This iconic away shirt was worn during Arsenal’s famous title-deciding match against Liverpool in 1989. The Gunners needed a two-goal victory against the Reds to seal the title, which at the time was a near-impossible task.
Goals from Alan Smith and Michael Thomas meant Arsenal defied the odds and won their first league title in 15 years. The jersey itself has the original Adidas logo as well as the classic Arsenal badge. Definitely worth picking up for nostalgia alone.
Arsenal Home Shirt 2002-04
Arsenal’s home jersey from 2003/04 will forever bring a smile to fans of the club. The club wore this jersey during their historic “Invincibles” seasons when the Gunners completed the entire league campaign without losing a single game.
Worn by the likes of Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira and Robert Pires, you were always guaranteed brilliant football when you went to Highbury that season.
Arsenal Away Shirt 2011/12
Although this shirt doesn’t bring back too many fond memories for Arsenal fans, it is definitely still worth picking up based on how cool it looks.
The shirt has a special badge to celebrate the club’s 125th anniversary. A lovely colour contrast of navy and turquoise gives this kit a really slick look.
Despite not winning any trophies while wearing this shirt, club legend Thierry Henry did make an emotional return halfway through the season on loan to help the Gunners out for a few months.
Arsenal Away Shirt 1991-93
Arguably one of the greatest Adidas shirts ever, Arsenal’s away shirt between 1991-93 is a must-have for any fan of the club.
The jersey has inspired all types of art, fashion and even other football shirts. It is mostly associated with Ian Wright’s famous hat-trick against Southampton on his league debut for the Gunners.
During the years this kit was worn, Arsenal completed a domestic double, despite finishing 10th in the league that season.
This shirt is also the last time we saw the Adidas “trefoil” logo in English football.
Arsenal Home Shirt 2005/06
A truly unique kit takes the top spot when it comes to Arsenal shirts. The 2005/06 home jersey is one of beauty and incredible sentimental value.
The Gunners ditched their usual red and white for a red currant colour to celebrate their final season at the Highbury Stadium. Arsenal qualified for the Champions League this season at the expense of their rivals Tottenham.
The final match at Highbury included a Theirry Henry hat-trick in a 4-2 victory over Wigan Athletic in what was an emotional day for the club.
Arsène Wenger’s men also reached the UEFA Champions League final during this campaign, but lost 2-1 to Barcelona.
