A brand new start for Bayer Leverkusen in 2016/17. Following on from their third place finish in the Bundesliga during 2015/16, they have a new sponsor and have released the designs of their home kit for 2016/17.
Bayer Leverkusen 2016/17 Home Kit
This is the home shirt which Bayer Leverkusen will wear during the 2016/17 season.
Predominantly black, the shirt features thin red horizontal pinstripes across the chest. Closely aligned to represent the eleven players on the field, they form a band which hosts the manufacturer, Jako, logo on the right breast and the club crest on the left.
New sponsor, Barmenia Versicherungen insurance company, has their logo prominently displayed on the chest of the shirt. The new deal sees them as Bayer’s main sponsor until 2020.
The original designs assumed that LG remained club sponsor but highlight that the shirt has opted for a stronger black influence than normally associated with Leverkusen. Owned by Bayer AG, the font references the corporate history of the club. Werkself translates as ‘factory team’, a further reinforcement of the club’s link with their pharmaceutical owners.
A panelled neckline and collar is all-black, merging into the body of the shirt. Jako’s logo features on the shoulders in homage to Adidas’ Three Stripes, the kit manufacturer they replaced. It’s a high-profile win for the Mulfingen-based sportswear company.
Plain black on the back, it is expected to be completed with black shorts and black socks.
