Ajax Amsterdam Unveil 2016-17 Home Kit

Ajax. A club whose name invoked images of Cruyff, Krol, Bergkamp, Van Basten; great Dutch players, almost peerless in their abilities.

Times may have changed and the club no longer in Europe’s elite, but the Eredivisie’s most successful club still retains their iconic kit and the time has come for manufacturer Adidas, to unveil the design for next season’s strip.

And thankfully they have remained true to the club’s heritage.

This is the home kit Ajax will wear for the 2016-17 season.

The familiar white shirt with centrally placed red stripe returns for another campaign. Continuing the trend of recent seasons, the stripe is broad, covering almost all of the shirt front and back. It runs the length of the shirt body, joining with a red curved v-shape collar.

On the inside neckline, a black splash houses three white crosses, an homage to the city of Amsterdam’s flag.

On the right breast is the club’s own badge, with three gold stars above denoting the consecutive Champions Cup triumphs of 1971, 1972 and 1973. The badge is made of up eleven lines which represent the XI on the field.

Opposite, on the left breast is the Adidas brand with the logo of primary shirt sponsor, Ziggo, centrally below.

The Adidas Three Stripes are in red and run down each side of the shirt body from the armpit to the hem. The shirt sleeves are white with a thin red band creating a dual-colour effect on the cuff.

The shorts are white, with the Three Stripes meeting those on the shirt as the run down the leg. On the socks, there are Three Stripes at the top which end at thick red band around the calf. Adidas logo is in red on the back of the leg whilst the club name is printed in red midway down the shin.

It is, once again, a simple upgrade on an iconic design, and one which Adidas has carried out beautifully.
