Chelsea, reigning Premier League champions, revealed their 2017/18 home kit. Widely leaked beforehand, it’s the first under the new partnership with Nike.
The Blues announced their first signing of the summer yesterday. Sending a shudder down the spine of their fans, Willy Caballero is now the back-up to Thibault Courtois. Altars are being hastily constructed by all who are offering prayers that the Belgian never gets injured.
Antonio Rudiger might soothe those nerves, with reports of a £29m fee being agreed with Roma.
Chelsea 2017/18 Home Kit
This is the 2017/18 Chelsea home shirt:
It would be easy to dismiss the kit as a royal blue version of the French kit. Take out the navy from that and it’s easy to see the comparisons.
It’s a standard Nike template with royal blue body and contrasting royal blue sleeves. The patterning of the shoulders and arms giving a darker hue to the rest of the shirt.
A dark blue band runs around the neck of an otherwise unremarkable design. Which will come as some relief following Adidas’ pyjama top issued last season.
The royal blue shorts feature a white bar on the side of each leg. It’s a retro tweak, reminiscent of the mid-70s and 80s kits the club wore. Completing the kit are white socks.
Dull? Probably but that’s a welcome relief to Chelsea fans.
