It was a vision of the future; almost. Ajax revealed their 2017-18 away kit prior to facing Manchester United in Stockholm last Wednesday and probably wished they hadn’t. Designed as an homage to the ‘wonder team’ of 1995, Manchester United’s away strip proved too alike for some.
Ajax’s performance earned praise, for their adherence to the club’s widely respected football principles. United were more pragmatic on the night with Jose Mourinho’s adherence to the principle of winning causing disquiet.
It capped a miserable season in which the Dutch giants once again missed out on the title by the narrowest of margins. Not quite to the low standards of last year but losing out to a Dirk Kuyt hat-trick is among the most painful of ways anyone could conceive.
Ajax 2017-18 Away Kit
This is the 2017-18 away kit:
The shirt is blue in colour with a distinctive graphic pattern. Trim on the shirt is dark navy, featuring in a round-neck collar with a triangular path at the front. Logos and motifs are white on shirt, shorts and socks.
Adidas’ Three Stripes run across the shoulder, in red which provides a striking contrast to the blue of the shirt body.
Both sleeves are dark navy with patterned cuffs while the back of the shirt is plain dark navy blue.
The shorts are navy blue with red stripes down the side of each leg. Blue socks complete the kit with three white crosses reflecting the city of Amsterdam’s flag.
They may have lost the Europa League final but Ajax’s blue away kit is a damn sight better than the mish-mash United wore. The poets may not have won but the aesthetes will have their day yet!
