Sheffield Wednesday, from the same city as the oldest football club in the world, Sheffield FC, are celebrating their 150th anniversary next season. They hope to be back in the big time as well, currently in the midst of the Championship promotion play-off shake-up.
The club asked supporters to come up with a design for next season’s third kit.
Wednesday fan, Karl Nuttall’s gold and white shirt forms the template for the actual kit to be released in the summer.
Sheffield Wednesday 150th Anniversary Kit
This is the Sheffield Wednesday 150th Anniversary kit
The base colours are white and old gold.
A gold polo-collar sits atop a classic football shirt. The plain white body is augmented by gold trim and accents, notably the sleeve cuffs. The club crest doesn’t look out-of-place, suitably historic in its’ design with four gold stars above signifying the Owls league titles.
On the reverse below the collar sits the club’s name in gold print. Hopefully, Wednesday will have these motifs and slogans woven, for an authentic touch.
The kit is finished with gold shorts, while the socks are white with gold bands.
It’s a cracking design and one the club will be proud to wear next season. And one which football kit designers would do well to take note of. Just saying…
