With the World Cup qualifiers well under way, Bulgaria are looking to reach the finals to be held in Russia in two years time.
They face a tough task. Being drawn in the same group as Luxembourg and Belarus hardly compensated for the other teams being Sweden, Netherlands and France. Oh, for a modern day Stoichkov! The first sign that it will be tough to qualify came in Sofia when they scraped through with a 4 – 3 win against Luxembourg in September. Hardly the result they expect.
A 1 – 4 defeat in Paris rammed the message home about the difficulty of their task and the trip to Sweden on Tuesday may reinforce that.
