USA Women’s Soccer team, the USNWT, is the dominant force when it comes to the Olympic Games.
Since the first tournament was introduced at the Atlanta games in 1996, the USA has finished in gold medal position on four occasions. The only time they didn’t was at the Sydney Olympics four years later, losing 2 – 3 to Norway after extra time in the final.
This time around, despite being favourites, they are expecting tough opposition from France and Germany. The USA beat Germany 2 – 0 in the semi-finals of the 2015 World Cup as they tightened their grip on the women’s game.
USA Women’s National Team Rio 2016 Olympics Kit
This is the kit the USA Women’s National Team will wear at the Rio 2016 Olympic games.
It is predominantly white, with red trim. The socks bring more colour to the strip, gradiented in blue. The white turnover gradually morphs into a deep blue at the foot.
The shirt is a clean white design with perforated shoulders and sleeves. The holes improve the circulation of air around the body, an important consideration in the heat of Rio de Janiero.
Around the white v-neck collar is red trim, stopping at the collarbone on the front. On the reverse neckline, the motif “USA” is printed in blue.
Down the side of the shirt runs a red stripe, meeting with a similarly positioned stripe on the shorts. The shirt sleeve cuffs are also red, with a thin red band around the bottom of each sleeve.
It’s a practical design from Nike, using the latest shirt technology. Under the midday Brazilian sun, it’s something the USNWT will surely appreciate.
