AIK, from the Solna suburb of the Swedish capital, Stockholm, celebrates its’ 125th anniversary this year. To mark the occasion, Adidas has created a special one-off kit.
Translated as “The Peoples Sports Club”, AIK are perhaps best known in the UK for their 1999/2000 Champions League fixtures. Scottish manager, Stuart Baxter, took his team to Wembley to face Arsenal, to the Camp Nou and Fiorentina’s Stadio Artemio Franchi. They took a point against the Italians but despite losing the remaining fixtures, were obdurate opponents and proud of their efforts.
There’s much more history in their century and a quarter existence. They have risen to the top, fallen into decline and risen once more, finishing third in last season’s Allsvenkan.
AIK 125th Anniversary Kit
This is the AIK 125th anniversary kit from Adidas.
The shirt is a mid-grey colour with a subtle mesh pattern to help circulate air around the body. It features a faux winged collar, with a curved v-shape neckline in a lighter shade of grey to the main shirt.
Incorporating the club’s traditional colours of black and white in the cuffs, Adidas has placed its trademark Three Stripes, in white, down each side of the body.
The shirt also incorporates a replica of the club’s first crest, featuring the year of formation, 1891, as well as referencing the sports initially played. The football club was instituted in 1896.
The kit comes with black shorts and white trim, finishing with grey socks and white three-striped turnover.
Happy birthday to AIK!
