Sao Paulo played their first home match of the season at the weekend and gave their new 2016/17 home kit its debut.
Sao Paulo 2016/17 Home Kit
This is the new Sao Paulo 2016 home kit.
Made by Under Armour, the white kit keeps faith with the club’s colours worn since its creation in 1935. Manufacturer logos adorn the right shoulder and each sleeve above the famous red, white and black vertical stripes.
Spanning the body of the shirt, they house the club’s crest in the centre with five stars above. The two gold stars represent Brazilian sprinter Adhemar Ferreira da Silva‘s world and olympic records whilst the three red stars signal the club’s 1992 and 1993 Intercontinental Cup wins over Barcelona and Milan, and the 2005 World Club Cup win over Liverpool.
On the sleeves, the red, white and black stripes in a wave shape with the black merging into a cuff.
The kit is finished with white shorts and white socks with red and black hooped turnovers.
It hasn’t been the best of starts to the 2016 Campenato with Sao Paulo losing both of the opening games 1 – 2.
Their new strip is a refreshing design, keeping a strict adherence to traditions in a time when a lot of clubs are tempted to tinker with their shirts. Bravo!
