Nestled in the vibrant city of Sao Paulo, Brazil, Sao Paulo FC stands as a football powerhouse with a rich history. The club, which was founded on January 25, 1930, has been synonymous with success, with a great record of accomplishments both locally and internationally. Also known as “Tricolor,” Sao Paulo FC takes pride in its distinctive three-colour emblem, symbolising the fusion of its founding clubs.
Recently, Sao Paulo FC announced its departure from Adidas, its kit supplier since 2018, marking the end of a longstanding partnership that also included collaborations in 1996-1998 and 1985-1990. Instead, the club is embarking on a new chapter with New Balance, securing an impressive four-year deal valued at $10 million annually, set to begin in January 2024 and extend until December 2027. Notably, New Balance will provide player versions of the jerseys to the team, distinguishing itself from the previous supplier.
Reports surrounding this decision suggest that Sao Paulo FC’s dissatisfaction with Adidas stemmed from concerns over kit quality and a perceived lack of support from the three-stripe brand. Carlos Fontana, the club’s president, expressed confidence that New Balance would not only offer a more favourable agreement but also provide enhanced support to the club.
The eagerly anticipated New Balance kits are expected to be worn by Sao Paulo’s star players, including James Rodríguez, the golden boot winner of the 2014 World Cup, former Tottenham and PSG player, Lucas Moura, and Giuliano Galoppo.
Lastly, reflecting on the last Sao Paulo First kit designed by Adidas, it featured a traditional white base with red and black stripes on the front and back. The Adidas logo was on the right side of the chest, with the Sportsbet.io logo positioned below the stripes.
