Cyprus’ Plain Bright Blue Kit. Straight Outta Table Football.
Cyprus is an island nation off the South coast of Turkey and off the west side of Lebanon. While it has always been a popular tourist destination, the north of the island was invaded in 1974. Only Turkey recognises the self-declared Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, however, there is no denying that it’s now in Turkish hands. Despite this on-going turbulent situation without an end in sight, the country still continues to play football. They’re currently ranked 87th in the world and have even reached as high as 66th in 2007. To push them further, Macron has provided Cyrpus with a home kit that is incredibly simple and stylish.
We at UK Soccer Shop really like the design. What do you think?
The kit top is blue. Not sky blue, nor navy. Simply a bright blue. The neckline is simple and has a white, semi-collar running around the edge of it. On the tops of the shoulders features Macron’s logo and the kit designer’s name can also be seen on the chest of the jersey. Cyprus’ crest is a white dove and a small illustration of the country (which this author thinks looks like an electric guitar). The dove of peace was adopted in 1960, after independence from British rule, however, as mentioned, after the Turkish invasion, its relevance has only increased.
On the nape of the kit is the word, “Cyprus.” The white writing contrasts nicely with the blue and adds character and depth. The bottom of each sleeve is half tapered with white. Finally, a form of white tapering can be seen at the bottom of the jersey.
The kit design is simple. Furthermore, it’s full of design decision, detail, and character. Cyprus’ next match is against Slovenia on Sunday.
