The question on many lips, including this author’s is who are Pumas UNAM? While this author might think he knows enough about football to survive a trip to the barbers, he hadn’t heard of the club. But, using the power of our friend Google, let’s find out who they are and why we’re talking about them. The team are a Mexican side who play under the watchful eye of David Patino at the Estadio Olimpico Universitario. They were founded in 1954 and finished their 2017/18 campaign in 7th place. Furthermore, the Liga MX (the league that the club plays in) has already gotten underway and currently the club sits on three points. Granted only one game has been played.
To help the Pumas out and push them up that league table, the club have sadly not teamed up with Puma. But have instead released their latest home kit with Nike. It’s a sleek, simple kit with an eye-catching design on the front.
The jersey itself is white. We’ve seen plenty of white kits in our time but this one is special. It has a huge, dominating, gold Aztec pattern inside the club’s crest. The Aztecs built civilisations all around the world. Evidence of these great buildings can be found all around Mexico and Puma UNAM want to honour this fact.
Both ontop of and below this design are the club’s main sponsors, as well as Nike’s iconic Swoosh. Each logo fits in suitably, rather than creating a cluttered appearance.
On the nape of the kit the club’s crest features once again ontop of a gold strip. The simple neckline is tapered with black, however the sleeves do not feature this tapering, instead they are a simple white.
Now that we know about the club, its heritage and this excellent design, we at UK Soccer Shop can’t wait to watch their season progress.
