Scunthorpe United. A team name that sounds so close to a swear word it just feels wrong. They’re managed by Nick Daws and play at Glanford Park. They have, arguably, some of the best fans in the world. Travelling up and down the country every week just to see their local Lincolnshire team play. Their dreams of being promoted to the Championship in 2018 were dashed in a 2-0 defeat to Rotherham. But after a third and a fifth place finish in the last two years, the club knows it won’t be long before they break into English football’s second tier. To help them achieve their Championship promotion, the Irons have teamed up with FBT to craft an away kit that is bursting with colour and stylishly designed.
We love the kit, simply because it’s a complete kit. No strange patterns that make you question what the overall theme is. It is simple, complete, and yellow.
Yes, the jersey is yellow.
Across the front is the club’s main sponsor – Rainham Steel and on the chest is Scunthorpe’s club crest and FBT’s logo. The sleeves are black with a yellow tapering a the bottom. This creates a strong, complete design and matches the yellow that features on the top of the neckline.
The designers have opted for a modern collar. One with a simple button at the front but without a built up neckline.
In the press release, the club say that the kit takes inspiration from Scunthorpe’s 1998/1999 season where they were promoted from Division Three. The only thing to remember here is that they were then relegated the following season.
We at UK Soccer Shop really like this latest away kit. It is exactly what a bold kit should be – complete. There are no random frills that make you question the design. Instead, everything makes sense.
It is a great kit and we can’t wait to watch Scunthorpe’s 2018/19 season. Might it end in promotion?
