Aston Villa’s Retro Away Kit Commemorating the 1980 Season has Arrived

Earlier we Showed You Their Retro Home Kit. Now it’s Time for Aston Villa’s Retro Away Kit.

Earlier today, with the Friday feeling creeping in, we talked about the 1980 season for top division football. The title was taken by Aston Villa, but only just. Ipswich Town was hot on their heels and the Tractor Boys were leading contenders to win the league. That’s not a phrase that you’ll read too often. To commemorate that exciting season, Umbro, together with Aston Villa have re-released their 1980 retro home kit. Furthermore, they’ve released Aston Villa’s retro away kit from that season as well.

Aston Villa's Retro Away Kit

To sum up why you should care about this retro kit, we wrote the following about Aston Villa’s retro home kit:

To set the scene, the 1980 season was a dramatic one for Aston Villa. Starting with an unbeaten run of four league games. That unbeaten run ended at Portman Road against Ipswich Town. Furthermore, this losing result set the tone for the rest of the season. England’s top division quickly became a two-horse race between the Tractor Boys and the Villans. Aston Villa finished the season with 60 points, and Ipswich Town had 56. In third place was Arsenal.”

Aston Villa’s retro away kit is white. The club’s crest and Umbro’s logo feature prominently on this bright blank canvas. The neckline is unbuttoned, but features a built-up collar consisting of sky-blue and claret stripes. These stripes can also be seen on the sleeves of Aston Villa’s retro away kit. Running from the neckline down to the bottom of each sleeve is a series of interlinked claret Umbro logos on a sky blue background.

Fast forward 38 years and the club is currently sat in 16th position. Currently safe from any relegation worries, this kit can act as the perfect distraction if any League One concerns begin to creep in.
