Concept Kits are Great. But Here’s Athletic Bilbao’s 2018/19 away kit.
Athletic Bilbao is a Spanish football team competing in La Liga. They’re currently sat in 17th place, which, granted, isn’t a great position, but their next game is against Rayo Vallecano which is a game that both Eduardo Berizzo and the Bilbao fans will hope can be won. Why is that game relevant? Well, Athletic Bilbao will be playing tonight’s game in their away kit.
We saw the club’s home kit back in May. Well before the 2018 World Cup excitement and Spain’s early exit. Furthermore, the home kit was released before the 2018/19 season. What did we say about the kit? Well, here’s a link. Alternatively, we’ve summarised it below:
“The top is in the classic colours of red and white – in a vertical striped pattern which continues around the body and stopping at the sleeves.
The neckline of the kit top is black, giving the kit top some much-needed variety and matching the accompanying black shorts and socks. While the kit doesn’t seek to do anything entirely new or different like the Arsenal kit on show yesterday, it does really look good.”
But does Athletic Bilbao’s away kit live up to the excellent home design? In short, yes. The kit is reflective of the one worn by the club at the turn of the 20th century. It’s a two-tone blue kit that’s separated down the centre. Furthermore, this light and dark colouring acts as the perfect blank canvas for the club’s crest, Bilbao’s main sponsor, and New Balance’s logo. On the nape of the jersey is Bilbao’s city flag and a red border runs around the kit’s simple neckline.
Finally, while Athletic Bilbao’s away kit is an excellent aesthetic design, it’s also incredibly practical. The jersey incorporates New Balance’s NB DRY technology.
