Scunthorpe United Reveal Their Commemorative 2018/19 Third Kit by FBT
Scunthorpe United Celebrate Ian Botham’s Appointment to Presidency With Heritage-Reflective Third Kit
Right now, as of writing this piece, the Irons are in 18th place of League One. In seven games, Scunthorpe United have picked up seven points. While it’s too early on in the season to even think about finishing places, fans will hope to see their team rise up towards the play-off places. Throughout these opening games, Scunthorpe United has worn their claret and sky blue kit. They’ve also worn their yellow and black kit. What we have not seen is their third kit. So let’s take a look now.
The third kit is red. In some promotional photos it appears to be a bright colour, in others, a more subdued, faded colouring. Designed by FBT, the kit is reflective of the club’s 70s and 80s kit. It was a time of escaping the fourth division and fans really liked the design. The club put the concept to a vote and while it didn’t make it as Scunthorpe United’s home kit, it has made an excellent third kit.
Across the shoulders we see three white stripes running from the neckline, down to the bottom of the sleeves. This is something we’d associate with Adidas, so it is an interesting adoption by FBT. The kit is promoted as limited edition and fans have positively reacted to this kit addition.
To fully reflect the kit’s heritage, the neckline features a classic white collar. The bottom of each sleeve features a white band running around it. This adds character to the kit and makes it appear more complete.
Due to the clash of kit colouring, the third kit will be seen this Saturday against the MK Dons. It’s a fixture that promises to be competitive and one that Stuart McCall will hope the Irons can win.
