Possibly the Best Third Kit We’ve Seen?
That’s right. We aren’t even joking. If we were it wouldn’t be particularly funny. So far in the build up to the 2018/19 leagues around the world, we’ve only seen Atletico Madrid’s latest home kit. We also mentioned them in Sevilla’s kit release. As we were taking a look at what kits had been released recently one caught our eye. “Another League One team,” we thought. We were wrong. Atletico Madrid, as if you needed us telling you, play at the heights of La Liga. Competing with Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Sevilla, the club currently sit in 10th place after three games. They have four points so Diego Simeone will seriously want his team to push up the competitive table.
To help them do so, the club has teamed up with Nike, a designer brand currently at the centre of political controversy. The club and Nike’s design team has together crafted a third kit that is bright, eye-catching, and representative of a fan-made tradition.
The colour of the kit is bright blue and an aerial map of Madrid can be seen at the bottom of the kit. This design is interrupted by the vertical stripes that appear at the bottom of the jersey. The stripes are seemingly synonymous with the club.
While blue is an excellent colour for any kit, it is especially important to Atletico Madrid because after each victorious home game, fans gather at the Fountain of Neptune in Madrid’s plaza. Here fans are able to celebrate the result together and often this can go on late into the night.
On the chest of Atletico Madrid’s third jersey sits the club’s crest, their main sponsor and Nike’s iconic, trademark Swoosh. The blue acts as a brilliant contrast against the orange.
