Club America Reveal Their 2018/19 Home Kit by Nike
Who are Club America? Well, if like this author you have no idea, you might think they’re a super hero group. Alternatively, you might think that it’s a children’s club at a holiday resort somewhere on that continent. Back to the point, Club America are a Mexican football team based in Mexico City. In their 2017/18 campaign the club finished in second place of the highest Mexican footballing league. Just behind Toluca. This season, manager Miguel Herrera will want to see his team take that title spot. Liga MX is currently three games in and Club America have earned six points. Not a bad start from the team.
To help them climb the Mexican footballing league, Club America have designed a kit with Nike that is simple and eye-catching. It reflects the uniqueness of the club, however does the amount of sponsorship compromise a good kit? We at UK Soccer Shop love the design, but what do you think?
The kit itself is bright gold. To reflect the colouring of the club’s crest, red and charcoal also feature prominently. Cutting diagonally underneath the club’s crest is a black sash, edged with a disconnected red line. This pattern gives the kit a positive, effective shape.
The sleeves are un-tapered and the neckline is simple. While the club’s crest and Nike’s Swoosh do feature prominently, they are a little lost amongst the abundance of sponsorship logos. There are seven sponsorship logos. The average usually seen in the Premier League is two or three. We understand the need for money, especially at the highest level of any country’s football. However, have they sacrificed a positive design for sponsorship?
The nape of the kit features the club’s crest once again – an atlas-style map pattern. We really like it when designers pay attention to the nape and this really is an excellent design decision.
