They’re in League One. Barnsley’s 2017/18 campaign ended in relegation and joining them in the third division of English football is Sunderland and Burton. Having just played their first match in League One, fans will be able to take a tiny sigh of relief. The club beat Oxford United 4-0. Any football fan will see that’s a pretty convincing scoreline, however Daniel Stendel will hope that his side can continue to get similar results throughout the season. Afterall, there’s a long road ahead of the club.
To help Barnsley along their League One promotional campaign, the club has teamed up with Puma to create a kit that reflects the club’s past while keeping to a simple, effective design.
Kit top fans with a keen eye will know that it wasn’t too long ago since the jersey featured a classic white collar ontop of a red coloured jersey. In fact, it was just two years ago. Clearly popular with both the fans and the kit designers themselves, we at UK Soccer Shop also hail its return.
The body colouring is, as mentioned, red. While this will be no surprise to anybody, there is a subtle pattern that features prominently. If caught in the correct light, that is. The pattern is of the club’s crest. The crest includes a griffin: a mythical creature consisting of a lion’s body and an eagle’s head and wings.
We love this pattern because it reminds us of Senegal’s World Cup kit. Don’t remember it? See it here. Spoiler alert: there’s a lion involved.
The sleeves complete the kit and are red with white tapering around the bottom.
We at UK Soccer Shop really love this kit. It oozes style while retaining the bold simplicity of a great design. We look forward to seeing the club chase down potential promotion in the months ahead.
