Wolfsburg. It’s definitely up there with some of the coolest-sounding football club names. Does it beat Scunthorpe? It’s hard to tell. We at UK Soccer Shop love a good club name, but we also recognise a high quality, simple kit when we see one. Wolfsburg’s latest away kit utilises simplicity in both design and colour to achieve the high-quality product that you see before you. After surviving a relegation playoff at the end of last season, the club will be looking to climb the Bundesliga and not only survive but compete. Their latest away kit will perhaps help them to do so.
The kit itself is white. We’ve seen plenty of white kits in our time. Some, have really worked well. Others, not so much.
While the jersey is mainly white, there are two colours that help this kit to stand out: blue and green. Both in their lightest shades, the green matches the club’s crest and the blue can also be seen in the club’s main sponsor – Volkswagen.
The Nike Swoosh that appears on the right hand side of the kit top is green. This is the correct decision, in our eyes because blue here would have allowed the sponsorship logo to overpower the club’s crest.
The neckline is simple and sleek. There is no built-up collar to contend with or a deep ‘V’. Instead, the green and blue on eitherside of the neckline fade in from the white at the front and connect at the back.
Inside the jersey is the town’s crest – a castle with a wolf at the top.
Fans so far seem to love the new away kit. It is completely simple, saving the team from an overly crowded, muddled jersey. The only criticism that could possibly come is that it might be TOO simple.
