Few English clubs can boast of an illustrious past and a bright future in one sentence. Newcastle United can. They had Sir Bobby Robson, the King of all managers, Alan Shearer, a player who was so good he featured on Actua Soccer 2 for the PS1, a game well before its time. Looking to the future and with Rafael Benitez at the helm the club are firmly in the Premier League. Newcastle dipped into the Championship a couple of years back but after finishing in 10th place of the Premier League, they mean business. To help them climb that slippery pole up to the top of the EPL they’ve joined forces with Puma to create a simple, stunning away kit.
We at UK Soccer Shop love it. What do you think?
The colours used are apparently maroon and blue. The pattern featuring is horizontal stripes going all the way round the kit. The choice for this colouring and style was to reflect the 1995/96 secondary kit that the team wore. This reflection of heritage and previous kits is always a big hit with the fans. The only problem is if the fans weren’t alive then and haven’t read any press releases, they might just think it a good looking kit, rather than one packed with iconic style.
The kit is described as “the fabric of Newcastle,” fully showing off the Geordy heritage. In the promotional shots, players feature in front of bursting pop art. In the background is Sir Bobby himself, a magpie, and Tyne Bridge. This is a press release done right.
Puma have ditched a collar, instead opting for a simple neckline that goes slightly lower at the front.
The kit is completed by white shorts and maroon/blue socks.
Once England are knocked out of the World Cup (or win it), fans can turn their attention to the EFL. Newcastle supporters will hope to see their team competing with the top six and really pushing p the table We cant wait to see this kit making an appearance.
