Hamburger SV. If we were Homer Simpson writing this article, we’d be salivating at the thought. “Mmm Hamburger.” Despite our hunger, our minds think back to the end of the club’s 2017/18 season. There were absolutely devastating scenes inside the Volksparkstadion as the club were relegated from the Bundesliga. Flares were let off and multiple small fires broke out. Police in full riot gear surrounded the pitch to ensure fans didn’t get onto it and cause any further damage. It was a tough end to the season and after Germany crashed out of the World Cup in the group stages, being a German Hamburger fan has been an incredibly hard year.
Next season the fans will be hoping only for promotion. They won’t want to hang around in the second tier, if they can help it. Midfielder Alan Halilovic has been signed by AC Milan and there hasn’t been too much other transfer window news. This could be a sign that the club is looking for unity and stability: building on the existing squad. Or it could be the lack of club energy that got them into this mess.
Either way, to prepare Hamburger SV for the 2018/19 campaign they’ve teamed up with Adidas to craft an effective home kit that features the kit designer’s trademark and an uncompromising simplicity. The kit is one that fans can start to put their belief into once again.
The kit is white with metallic grey running horizontally in lines. The colouring on top of this is blue. Three lines run across the shoulders and up to the neckline, showing that this was designed by Adidas. We’ve seen these lines on plenty of kits, including Benfica’s home and away kits.
The kit is finished with red shorts and a simple blue-tapered neckline.
This simplicity ensures that the club’s crest, sponsor, and Adidas’ logo aren’t lost on the front of the kit.
The fans will be looking for any positivity to take into the 2018/19 campaign and Adidas have definitely presented that here.
