Swansea City Release Their 2018/19 Home and Away Kits by Joma

Waaaaaaaales. Waaaaaaales. That’s what a passionate Welsh fan sounds like. Pure, un-adulterated joy at watching their team play. Unfortunately the Welsh aren’t at the World Cup but we know they’d be bringing the energy with them if they were. Fans from the valleys will have to satisfy themselves with cheering England on. Or cheering when Belgium beat them. Either way, Swansea City fans will be slowly recovering from their 2017/18 campaign. The club have been relegated to the second tier of English football. It was Southampton that narrowly avoided the drop. We’re gutted for our Welsh fans but to get them back into the Premier League, Joma have released the club’s newest home and away kits.

We think that both are stylish and eye-catching, however we’re just not sure about the sponsors. Not for any reason other than the colouring on the away kit doesn’t quite work. For us, that is.

The home kit is white and black. No shocks there. The body is white with a black club crest, designer logo, and flourishes.

Running down the sides of the body, starting halfway is a series of thin black lines running onto the shorts. It is not often that kit designers use the shorts in this way (to continue a jersey pattern) but here it really does work well.

The neckline is a white and black, split short collar. It creates a modern appearance from what could otherwise look great on a more classic kit.

Onto the away kit now.

It’s blood orange fading towards the bottom into charcoal. The top of the kit is bright and allows the club’s crest to stand out. The bottom features an excellent, fade-in pattern that gives the kit a burnt effect.

The only controversial thing that we could point out is that the blue and red seem to clash with the other featured colours. It isn’t a deal-breaker but it is on the boarder between fine and Ipswich Town’s 2018/19 kit.

Overall Swansea’s home kit is simple with excellent stylistic decisions and the away kit is bold in its colouring but a little questionable in its execution.
