Rotherham United Reveal Their 2018/19 Away Kit by Puma

Rotherham are back. They beat Shrewsbury Town in the League One playoffs to return to the Championship. The results of this match are huge. It means that Wigan, Rotherham, and Blackburn all bounce straight back into the second tier of English football, the season straight after relegation.

Losing to Shrewsbury, it also meant that Paul Hurst, their manager, had to consider his future at the League One club. This consideration caused him to sign a three year contract with Ipswich Town, something that fans were incredibly grateful for. Next season, eyes will firmly be on himself, Jack Ross, manager of Sunderland, and Derby’s managerial appointment: Frank Lampard. It’s going to be a great season for Championship football and also making an appearance is Rotherham United’s 2018/19 away kit.

The kit itself is blue and black, running in medium stripes vertically from the bottom to the top. Across the centre is the main sponsor’s name: Mears, a private care home in Rotherham’s part of Yorkshire.

The sleeves of the kit are solid black, with the Puma logo jumping across. The club’s crest sits on the chest and stands out, being red on a black and blue background.

When the club was relegated during their 2016/17 season, their home kit was very similar to the regular Arsenal kit. It had a red body with white sleeves, however Rotherham added a classic collar to reflect the club’s past. Their away kit was sky blue, a favourite colour for this author, and the sleeves were black, an interesting combination.

The English Championship is said to be one of the most competitive, exciting leagues in the world. Clubs have both everything to play for and everything to lose. Rotherham have had their fair share of winning and losing, but will their new away kit leave opponents black and blue, or will they be returning to League One, having been relegated, then promoted, then relegated again?
